Education   Ph.D. - optics, laser physics. Institute of Physics, Kiev, Ukraine (1997).
M.S. - applied mathematics and physics. Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology (http://www.mipt.ru/), Moscow, USSR (1984-1990).
Qualifications   Over nine years experience in conducting research in the fields of laser physics and laser spectroscopy. Advanced knowledge of spectroscopic devices and techniques, optical component alignment.
Very strong computer skills. Software developing (C, PASCAL, FORTRAN, ASSEMBLER, C++) for experiment automation, data acquisition and processing. Numerical calculations to model physical phenomena.
Demonstrated ability of developing and using electronics (especially digital) in experiment setups. Able to solve hardware and software problems.
Wrote many project proposals and reports.
Learn new skills and ideas quickly. Cooperative.
Professional experience
  • 6/98 to present. Center of Microgravity and Materials Research, University of Alabama in Huntsville, Huntsville, Alabama. Research Associate.
  • 1/98-6/98 University of Central Florida, Physics Department, Orlando, Florida. Adjunct.
    * Conduct research of the protein folding process under high pressure - low temperature conditions using Raman scattering, absorption and flash fotolysis techniques. Responsibilities include maintaining, alignment and modification of the setup with Ti:Sapphire, Ar, YAG lasers, cooled CCD-array, photomultiplier acquisition system, high pressure and vacuum systems. Preparation of publications with results of experimental studies. Also teaching the laboratory work course.
  • 12/97-12/98 Scientific Research Center "Sonar", Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences, Kiev, Ukraine. Senior engineer.
    * Defended Ph.D. thesis. Took active part in the BIODOS project (EUC). Worked on the development and application of vitamin D biodosimeter for control end measurements of solar UV radiation and ozone layer depletion.
  • 3/95-8/96 University of Central Florida, Physics Department, Orlando, Florida. Research Associate.
    * Designed and elaborated experimental setup for flash-photolisys study of protein molecules. Successfully solved problems of the high speed data acquisition setup (designed and optimized amplifiers for PMT-tube, configured and synchronized hardware). Wrote an original program for the control of the experimental setup that saved money on software purchase. Mastered Raman and absorption spectroscopy techniques in the high pressure - low temperature experiments. Acquired experimental data that resulted in several publications and new project proposals.
  • 1/91-2/95 Scientific Research Center "Sonar", Ukrainian National Academy of Sciences, Kiev, Ukraine. Engineer-programmer.
    * Investigated novel lasers with the possibility of electronic synthesis of their spectrum shape. The emphasis was given to the studying of acoustooptical control elements inside the dispersive laser resonator. Designed and created fully computerized experimental setup that included tunable dye laser, acoustooptic deflector with control system, computer controlled CCD array. Wrote several publications, successful project proposals and reports.
