The Center for Microgravity and Materials Research at the University of Alabama in Huntsville has immediate openings in a biocrystallization program supported by grants from NIH and NASA. Research will include studies of crystal growth kinetics in particular nonlinear dynamics of layer propagation by high-resolution phase-shifting interferometry, and consequences for crystals' perfection. As a final phase, the project envisions tests in microgravity conditions aboard the space shuttle or international space station. Understanding of thermodynamics and kinetics in application to phase transitions and experience in custom-built optical methods and experiment computerization and automation are desired.
